Helen Taylor
Child & Adolescent Counsellor
I am a specialist child and adolescent counsellor, trained in a model that combines talk and play-based counselling. Alongside my private practice I work in schools, with significant experience counselling in both primary and secondary settings.
My counselling approach is integrative: which means I draw on a range of theories, relational: which means I view the collaborative therapeutic relationship as central to the process, and pluralistic: which means I am responsive to the unique needs and preferences of each client.
Building on a previous career in consumer psychology and research, I am a committed practitioner-researcher, keeping up-to-date with the latest knowledge on child and adolescent emotional development and counselling practice. I serve as a peer reviewer for academic journals and conduct my own research, both independently and in collaboration with other institutions. Current research interests include: therapeutic parent work, the emotional impacts of learning difficulties and neurodiversity, managing transitions and school responses to the developing coronavirus situation.
